Virtual World: Conquering the World Chapter 6

Chapter 6: Goblin War Axe
After leaving the village, I looked around and saw a wide forest filled with small monsters, but there were no players at all.  Turning my head, I saw that the players of the Beginner Village were rushing out!

I immediately rushed forward, but when i was about to start farming, I saw that there was a girl in cloth clothing standing not far away.  She was anxiously looking out, almost as if she needed help with something!

“Un?  It seems like quest!”

I was the first person the leave the village, so I did not hesitate and immediately went over.

When I arrived beside the young girl, she said, “When Grandpa went out to chop firewood earlier, he lost his axe head.  I heard it was taken by some evil goblins!  Big Brother, can you help me retrieve Grandpa’s axe head?”

“Ding~!”

System Notification: Will you accept the quest [Retrieve the goblin war axe]?

…...

This kind of good thing, why would I refuse?!

When I clicked the accept button, I immediately heard another system notification sound.

“Ding~!”

System Notification: You have accepted the quest [Retrieve the goblin war axe]!  (Beginner Quest.  Quest Difficulty: 10)

Quest Details: Help the young girl Xiao Hua find her lost axe head.  The axe head should be on the body of goblins outside of the village.  Kill the goblins and retrieve ten battle axes!

I was a little startled.  It clearly said that Xiao Hua’s Grandpa only lost an axe head, but this fellow wanted me to collect ten axes.  They really had quite an appetite, wanting to earn from my efforts!

After she finished talking to me, the young girl Xiao Hua sat down under a large tree, as if she would no longer give the quest anymore.

I’ll just have to suck it up and deal with the goblins first!

At this moment, a goblin near me discovered me who shouldn’t be here, so he rushed over with his axe.  His small body was like a small melon and he was wearing a funny green helmet!

I looked at him and realized that I could easily discover the stats of these low level monsters -

[Small Goblin] (Normal monster)

Level: 1

Attack: 1-3

Defense: 1

HP: 100

…...

The small goblin only had 1-3 attack so it shouldn’t do that much damage to me with my 2 points of defense!

So, I rushed forward and ruthlessly slammed the short stick on the goblin’s head!
“Peng!”

A sound resounded out and a “12” damage figure appeared above the goblin’s head!

The goblin’s axe also slowly fell down on my shoulder.  There was a slight pain and I lost 5 HP!

This was good since my HP was around the same as the goblin, so I should be able to fight it!

The most important thing was that my attack speed was much faster compared to the goblin.  As a basic monster, the goblin would not be designed to instant kill players!

The wooden stick fell several times on the goblin’s head.  It gave a painful cry and slowly fell down, exploding into a couple of copper coins which glowed on the ground!

“Ding!”

Combat Notification: You have killed a small goblin and gained 10 experience!

I immediately picked up all three copper coins from the ground and placed them in my inventory!

Only, after I finished fighting the goblin, my HP was already below half.  If I fought another goblin like this, it would be very dangerous!

I quickly looked at my stats.  Then I discovered that the once a player entered the game, they were given 5 stat points to add, but I hadn’t added them in yet!

Fuck!  Could I even be considered a veteran player?!

I was embarrassed as I immediately placed all five points into the strength stat.  It was bad to be lacking in attack power in the beginning stages of the game, and I was going to change into a battle profession anyway!

After adding the five stat points, my attack went from 0-3 to 0-8.  Like this, it would be much easier to deal with a single goblin!

So, I quickly chased down a nearby goblin and my stick fell down on its head.  A damage figure immediately appeared.

“34!”

I was a little shocked.  I never thought that I would be this strong!

After smashing down with the stick another two times, the pitiful goblin gave a painful cry as it fell down onto the ground.  With a “pa da” sound, a rusty axe fell to the ground along with a few copper coins.

[Goblin War Axe] (Quest item)

…...

I picked it up and looked at it, but I was disappointed when I found that it had now stats.  I immediately placed it into my inventory and continued to kill monsters!

The axe had a very low chance of dropping.  It appeared once every five goblins that were killed, and what was worse was the fact that there were more players now.  Once I farmed nine axes, the entire area was completely filled with players.  Each goblin was being smashed on the head by several sticks at the same time!

It seemed like it was already impossible to stay here and level up, otherwise it would be impossible to rise up above the normal players!

At this time, a goblin spawned right beside me and it turned its head to look around its surroundings.

I immediately smashed my stick at its head, but at the same time, there were four other players attacking it with their sticks!

“Pa, pa, pa!”

With just three impact sounds, the small goblin that had just been spawned had lost its life.  It dropped an axe which fell down on the forest floor.

I knew what I had to do and my hand shot out as fast as lightning.  It would have been weird if I hadn’t hit it first!

I quickly picked up the axe and threw it into my inventory.  I had finally collected all ten axes!

There were several players that were staring at me, as if they wanted to ask something, but I didn’t give them any chance to speak.  I quickly turned around and rushed over to Xiao Hua.

Taking out the ten axe heads, Xiao Hua’s face immediately revealed a smile.  She said, “Thank you, you’ve helped my find my Grandpa’s axe head.  This is your reward!”

“Ding~!”

System Notification: Congratulations on finishing the [Goblin War Axe] quest.  You have obtained 500 experience, 2 silver coins, and +2 Prestige.  You have also received the reward [Crude Iron Sword]!

“Ding~!”

System Notification: You have levelled up!

“Yi?  It gave an equipment!”

I was very happy as I instantly opened my inventory.  I saw that there was an iron sword lying there!

[Crude Iron Sword] (Trash Tier)

Attack: 1-4

Required level: 2

…...

Ha, ha, it was a level 2 equipment.  Although it was an equipment at the lowest grade, it still had a higher attack than the stick given by the server!  (In Spirit of Grief, the equipment ranks are: Trash Tier, White Grade, Dark Iron Grade, Bronze Grade, Silver Grade, Golden Grade, Dark Gold Grade, Demon Grade, Earth Grade, and Divine Grade.  Of course, there were also overpowered equipments over Divine Grade, but it was unknown if I could see it in my lifetime.)

I quickly swapped out for the iron sword.  At this moment, I became the only expert in the Beginner Village with an iron sword!

Many players looked over with expressions of awe.  In their eyes, I was without a doubt the most overpowered player in the village!

I was now level three and the small goblins could no longer satisfy my needs.  Moreover, after I obtained this new weapon and added another 5 points into strength, my attack was now 1-17.  With this kind of attack power, if I didn’t go and fight strong monsters, it would be a waste of what was given to me!

So, I quickly returned to the village and went to buy ten small potions from the boss of the medicine shop.  Each one restored 100 HP, but they were very expensive.  Each one costed 20 copper coins!  It was fine since I was given 2 silver coins after finishing the quest, so I could but the potions!

A huge investment would result in a huge profit, I could understand this kind of simple logic!

When I was leaving the village, I found that there were a few armour clad soldiers standing outside the village looking around.

I walked over and as expected, this NPC was the captain of the guard for the village.  He looked over at me and said, “Brave young man, you are strong enough.  Can you help me with something?”

I immediately nodded my head.

The guard captain loudly said, “There have been a few flame bats that have appeared to the south of our village.  They have a special kind of poison and several of my soldiers have already suffered at their hands.  I was hoping that you could go kill those flame bats and bring back some of their detoxifying bat blood!”

I was a little startled, but I quickly pressed the accept button!
“Ding~!

System Notification: You have accepted the quest [Clear the field]!  (Beginner Quest.  Quest Difficulty: 50)

Quest Details: Kill the flame bats residing to the south of the village.  Collect 20 packets of bat blood and return them to guard captain Ma Su!

…...

My heart skipped a beat.  The goblin killing quest from earlier had a difficulty of 10 and now this quest had a difficulty of 50.  Seeing the guard captain’s expression, he looked like he wasn’t expecting me to return at all!

I couldn’t help feeling a chill run down my back.  I immediately packed up and headed to the south side of the village!
